If you haven't heard about the new beauty sensation that's sweeping the western world, I'd say it's time you learned. I'm talking about BB Cream. It's a sensational new skin product that will help your face in leaps and bounds. Apparently. Am I ringing affirmative about this? Not yet, though I did buy Smashbox's version of it at Sephora the other day and I have to tell you that I'm not disappointed by any means.
BB Cream seems like it's just starting to pick up on a wide scale in the U.S., and I can't even begin to tell you how many brands and types of BB Cream (short for Blemish Balm Cream) there are out there.
What is it? Well it was originally created in Germany, and is a combination of SPF, moisturizer, primer, and a bit of a tint usually. Some of the asian market products also have whitening properties in them. It's been mainly sold in Asian markets and has been really popular there for a while. It was originally for people that had undergone laser skin treatments or other treatments that would cause the skin to be really sensitive, but more and more makeup artists and members of the general public have been using it as a base for makeup or a solo tinted moisturizer. I think the most popular one is this pink bottle of Super Beblesh Balm by
Skin79. It's available for order online and also is less expensive than a lot of the U.S. and European products. I don't know if it's "the best", but it's the one that I see the most when searching the vast array of product choices.
I may purchase a bottle simply to see if there is a difference from the one I'm currently using, which is the
Smashbox BB Cream in Fair.
I actually like this product so far. I've only been using it for a little while but it hasn't caused my to break out and I'm not overly oily or dry (which tends to be a weirdo problem with my skin). I have severely acne prone skin and have been having a rather nasty bout with dry patches on my cheeks and jaw line, while being super oily in others. This stuff has helped to balance it out, though I am also on prescription meds to help with my skin issues so it might just be everything doing its job together. The Smashbox cream is pretty expensive, especially when combined with the price of my moisturizers. I use Bobbi Brown Hydrating Face Cream and Eye Cream, which I like very much.
Basically, my skincare routine is: prescribed topical cream, face cream, eye cream, BB Cream, and then concealer (plus eye makeup and whatnot). I let each cream sink in for about 4 or 5 minutes before I apply the next. I must say that my skin has been looking pretty fresh and dewy lately. I would recommend at least trying a BB Cream of some kind, though they're generally oriented toward fairer, oil prone complexions. Smashbox does have a pretty good color range compared to the popular Korean brands.
What do you guys think? Have you hear of BB Cream before? Have you tried it? The Smashbox version has had somewhat mixed reviews so I'd like to hear from anyone else that's tried one.
